There are several things that might intimidate new delegates of high school MUN conferences. It is important to know what you want to say in your speech or during the caucus, how to make points or motions for the first time, what a new term means, etc. 

In this article, we are going to tell you five facts that you need to know when you reach your high school MUN conferences. 

1. Prepare a research binder 

How do you go about that? It is always better to be prepared. Therefore, start by gathering information and conducting research Which should always be at your fingertips. You should have a ready-to-access research binder, which could be a lifesaver if you mix up all the different topics, acronyms, agencies, and previous solutions, etc.; every delegate should have their own research binder to always refer to in case of emergency. 

2. Frame your topics and speeches 

In high school MUN conferences, you have two to three days to solve the world's most important and complicated problems. This is certainly a challenge for you, but don't let it overwhelm you. You can first start by breaking the different topics into smaller issues. Then decide which of the following topics is the most important for your country or your position. Match the solution with the concerning issues.

3. Write out your first speech 

We know that it is a scary concept because you have to speak in front of people you have never met and perhaps judge you. But the first speech is always the easy part because you have to write it out ahead of your time. So, think about what you want to say, write it down and then practice it. Once you have learned how to frame your topic, you will realize that it becomes easy to frame your speech.  

4. Focus one topic at a time 

In a high school MUN conference, the committee will discuss many different problems and solutions. There will be too many speeches that will try to cover so many ideas simultaneously. Usually, people get confused by the vast number of ideas and topics thrown their way, and therefore the delegates ruin their speech. Therefore, it is important to focus on one idea at a time. If you want to make your speech coherent for yourself and your audience, start by taking one topic at a time. Focusing on one topic can help you overcome the fear of public speaking and also remove the cow webs of what you want to say in a speech. 

5. Learn the different stages of committee 

When you're beginning to set out in a high school MUN conference, it might seem that there are so many committees. This might make you feel anxious or uncertain about different things. To overcome these feelings, you can start by learning the various stages of the committee. You just don't have to know the rules or the motions but the fact of what to do and when to do it. Gather as much information as you can about what stage the committee is in, whether making speeches, forming alliances or passing resolutions. Once you realize a certain rhythm to a committee, all the chaos you have felt the first time will turn into order. 

Most importantly, if you don't understand something in a high school MUN conference, don't be afraid to ask. Ask if you feel that you don't understand something, for instance, a word, the motion or raise a query. Asking questions is the first step to removing your fear of MUN conferences and becoming a first-class delegate.
