Writing a MUN position paper is significantly an important task. It is the Bible throughout your conference. When you write a MUN and position paper, you explain your country's viewpoint in a paragraph. Your position paper is also the first mode of evaluation on which the committee chair will judge you.

Since writing a MUN position paper is crucial to the experience, this is something that you want to excel at, and therefore you should meet several criteria at once. Once again, we are stressing that the position paper should be written from your country's perspective and not your own. This document will act as your guideline for action throughout the entire conference. And therefore, you should ensure that you give an accurate portrayal of your country's stance on the issues at hand. 

Pre-Research 

Before you start writing a MUN position paper, you must look at the questions that were outlined in your background research. It is a document that may be sent to you by the committee chair. You have to provide a solution to the comprehensive course of action to the queries asked in the document. This should be the ultimate goal of your MUN position paper. If you want to write a very comprehensive position paper, you should reference these guidelines and demonstrate that you understood the concept and depth required for a MUN simulation. 

While writing the MUN position paper, there are a number of clearly identifiable elements. There is a definite structure to the position paper which includes three sections, where each serves a clear purpose within the context of the paper.  

Statement in the MUN position paper 

The first section, which is labeled as A, outlines the topic in general and provides you with an insight into the root of the conflict. You should always start right up by beginning the areas of concern, discussing the positive and negative aspects of the topic, as well as discussing the controversial issues at hand. You can also open your paragraph with a brief summary of the current perception held towards the status quo by the government globally. You should also take the problem in detail and express why it is crucial and matters in the recent scenario. 

Describe how your country has been affected 

While writing the MUN position paper in the section labeled as B, you should identify and describe your country. You should start by telling how your nation relates to the topic for discussion and why this topic is a concern for your country. You must emphasize how much change has taken place in your country. You don't have to give any subjective opinions concerning your governments or institutions, but rather you should just discuss how it has altered domestic dynamics. 

Discuss your countries policies and proposed solutions 

This is the third section of the position paper where you have to outline your country's policies and how your country or government decided to frame those policies in the first place. 

Then you can start to address the benefits that come from this policy and the obstacles you think may be faced in resolving the issue at hand. You also have to explain why your country acted in a certain manner and why it will continue to follow this policy.  

You can also outline your country's particular interest in the issue being discussed and what you think can be changed about the current interpretation. You can give your ideas on reforms, alternatives, or suggestions on how certain things could be changed to deal with the issue at hand.

Write the conclusion 

Finally, you should write the conclusion to restate your country's position. You should write what you hope to gain from the reforms that you have suggested. The MUN position paper will leave the committee chair with the first impression of your delegation. You must make the maximum impact on the committee with the position paper.
